Usage Instructions:
This well-made whetstone has a dense concentration of ultra-fine air pockets and can be used immediately by lightly wetting it. Before using the whetstone, either briefly submerge it in water, or wet the surface with your hand, then begin sharpening. Under normal circumstances (summer or winter temperature variations, immersion in water), there is no risk of a loss of quality. It can be used in the same manner as conventional (kiln-fired) whetstones.
- To maintain the stone’s ability to sharpen, please clean the whetstone with water and restore the surface with the restoration stone included in the set after each use.
Regarding the Product Finish of the Gokumyo Series
In the case of extremely hard whetstones such as those in the Gokumyo series, it is not possible to perform the same finish polishing as with regular whetstones, so the surface is carefully polished using a special grinding machine with a diamond cutter. At this stage, the stone is ready for sharpening, but to minimize traces of machine polishing, we perform a final hand-finishing process in stages using #100 to #3000 polishing stones. In addition, in order to keep product costs down, we do not perform this type of finish polishing on any surfaces other than those used.
Due to the nature of the product, very thin polishing marks or firing marks may remain, but these do not affect use in any way and will disappear with careful dressing and use, so please note that this is not a product defect.
